Why did you decide to volunteer?
I chose to volunteer as a mentor because I derive satisfaction from assisting others, and I am motivated by the desire to have a positive impact on students' lives. Additionally, I saw it as an excellent opportunity to deepen my engagement in the university community, thereby strengthening my sense of belonging and expanding my network as a first-year student.
What role were you doing and what did you enjoy most about it?
I was a mentor to two secondary school students, occasionally four. What I most enjoyed was getting to know my mentees and learning about their aspirations and lives.
What do you feel you have gained from your volunteering?
Volunteering has brought numerous benefits into my life, including a heightened sense of belonging in the community, an expanded network, and increased confidence.
Why should other students volunteer?
Other students should volunteer to develop their skills, acquire new ones, and also gain fresh experiences.

Why did you decide to volunteer?
I wanted a more hands-on experience of my subject. My subject is very theoretical, but seeing good being put out into the world was very gratifying no matter how big or small the impact.
What role were you doing and what did you enjoy most about it?
I was the Social Media Content Creator and was in charge of coming up with creative ideas to post on the Instagram and Facebook pages. I would plan, film and edit videos which would be published in order to encourage more people to join.
What do you feel you have gained from your volunteering?
I feel like I have gained not only amazing connections within the industry I want to work in but also transferable skills such as time management and communication to name a few which are applicable to any aspect of life.
Why should other students volunteer?
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain in this experience! Not only will it look amazing on your CV but you will get to meet amazing people and learn about some fascinating stories!
