Anthony Leaker

Anthony Leaker has a background in literature and philosophy, with a particular focus on Wittgenstein and contemporary North American fiction. 

His research on contemporary fiction is primarily focused on the critique of neoliberal work practices. His work on Wittgenstein examines the political aesthetics of his later philosophy. He also researches on questions of cultural representation and transnational populist politics. He is currently writing a book on Free Speech. 

Anthony’s first degree was in literature and philosophy at Middlesex University. It was an interdisciplinary programme and he has been an interdisciplinarian ever since, completing an MA in Modern European Literature at the University of Sussex, with a dissertation on Beckett and Wittgenstein leading onto a Dphil on Wittgenstein and Don DeLillo. Following the completion of his DPhil in 2012, he worked in a range of disciplines as a Visiting Lecturer for a number of institutions (Universities of Sussex, Chichester, Brighton). In 2014 he became a full-time member of staff on the Humanities programme at Brighton, teaching and researching across multiple disciplines, including critical and political theory, literature, philosophy, aesthetics, and cultural studies.

Leaker's work on Wittgenstein examines the political aesthetics of his later philosophy, and involves a series of comparative readings with other critiques of Western metaphysics. Anthony also researches on questions of cultural representation, transnational populist politics, and the politics of free speech.

He has supervised postgraduate work on critical theory, continental philosophy and cultural politics.
