Personal profile

Research interests

My main research interests are novel construction materials and concrete technology with particular interest in a) cement replacement materials i.e Pulverized Fuel Ash, geopolymer high strength cement free concrete and low thermal conductivity concrete, and strengthening of reinforced concrete members using concrete layers with particular interest in interface bond and slip and in shrinkage effect.

Approach to teaching

I teach Construction Materials and Civil Engineering Practice which are both year 1 modules. My teaching is a combination of traditional methods such as lectures and lab classes and new teaching techniques like online tests and in class quizzes using electronic interactive teaching tools. I am always trying to present examples form real life and many of the coursework are based on projects in developing countries.

Supervisory Interests

My research is mainly focused on the development of novel construction materials such as geopolymer concrete and the strengthening of existing reinforced concrete structures with concrete layers.
