Ricardo is a global, world-class, multi-industry consultancy for engineering, technology, project innovation and strategy, committed to providing outstanding value through quality engineering solutions focused on high efficiency, low emission, class-leading product innovation and robust strategic implementation.
The company's engineering expertise ranges from vehicle systems integration, controls, electronics and software development, to the latest driveline and transmission systems and gasoline, diesel, hybrid and fuel cell powertrain technologies. Its customers include the world's major vehicle, engine and transmission manufacturers, tier 1 suppliers and leading motorsport teams.
The Advanced Engineering Centre at the University of Brighton has developed a highly successful partnership with Ricardo, collaborating for over 20 years. In 2006, we jointly opened the Sir Harry Ricardo Laboratories and created one of the most advanced engineering research environments in Europe. Close dialogue with Ricardo has enabled early recognition of market trends and technological challenges relating to conforming to new EU legislation on vehicle emissions and the development of fuel-efficient engines. We have staff secondments and dual-working arrangements allowing us to transfer knowledge between AEC and Ricardo and into the wider research and academic community. In addition, AEC researchers employed as consultants at Ricardo have been able to help drive improvements in engine technology to meet low carbon legislation.
Together, we pool our expertise and share key skills to develop understanding about advanced combustion processes in order to optimise engine performance and reduce polluting emissions. We have made several breakthroughs in engineering and have set our sights on continuing our successful, mutually-beneficial groundbreaking approach.
The reputation of the Sir Harry Ricardo Laboratories has been enhanced by our collaborations with over 40 academic institutions and high-profile industrial clients from around the globe. We are proud of our status as a valued and trusted partner. We are often the first port of call for groups wishing to address the environmental targets set by UK and European governments and we receive substantial funding for prestigious projects, which contribute to the global strategy of reducing total vehicle emissions. We are at the cutting-edge of engine research, delivering knowledge-based innovation to the automobile industry, but our high-ranking research has also been rewarded with motorsport engineering programmes.
