Get ahead with a placement year

Employers tell us they value students with industrial experience. Stand out from the crowd in an increasingly competitive graduate job market by doing a placement year.

A placement year brings other benefits:

  • You will learn from highly-experienced individuals and use new cutting-edge technologies.
  • You will improve your knowledge of your subject and find out about a range of career paths in your field.
  • You will improve your key skills and abilities.
  • You will earn money - the average placement year salary is around £16k–£21k.
  • You may even be offered a full-time graduate role to return to when you graduate.
  • You will put what you have learned at university into practice.

Or stand out amongst the crowd with an insight experience or internship

In your first year why don’t you go to an employer for an insight day or week to explore your industry and the types of companies and work out there? Or in your second year in your summer vacation period take a short term internship from two weeks to three months at an employer to boost your skills and make those all important connections?

We can offer you

We work hard to source and promote quality placement years, insight experience and internships for you to apply to, we advertise exclusive opportunities that are available to only Brighton students as well as roles available nationally.

Each discipline we work with has a dedicated Placement Coordinator with specialist knowledge of your subject who is here to find suitable opportunities for you.

We help you write your CV, make applications and prepare for interviews and assessment centres as well as having employer talks and Q+As and previous students talks.

Placements/insights and internships are available in these courses:

  • Biomedical and Biological Sciences
  • Built Environment
  • Civil Engineering
  • Computing
  • Ecology
  • Engineering
  • Environment
  • Maths
  • Product Design
  • MSc Data Analysis
  • MSc User Experience Design

Whatever you do whilst at university it is essential to get experience in industry so contact us today at stemplacements@brighton.ac.uk – we look forward to working with you.

I’ve been able to take on increasing amounts of responsibility during my placement at Eschmann. I’ve helped them to speed up their work flows, which in turn helps everybody to work more efficiently, and speeds up the process of getting new or revised products out into the market.
