To help control the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure the safe return of students permitted to return to face-to-face learning, we are offering regular COVID-19 testing to all students and staff. Please check our FAQ for more details.

You should take testing twice in your first week of return – immediately upon return and then again three days later.

The exception is if you have already tested positive for COVID-19 in the previous 90 days, or if you have tested negative in your home town immediately prior to returning.

International students

Unless you are in the group of students who are able to travel back to university for in-person teaching and learning, international students should also stay where they are at this point.

International students who are allowed to return should be aware that the UK has introduced travel bans for arrivals from some countries (otherwise referred to as ‘red list’ countries) as part of measures taken to protect the UK from new strands of COVID-19.

We currently offer testing at four sites - Falmer, Moulsecoomb, City, and Eastbourne. If you choose to, you can now book up to two tests per week.

You will receive a confirmation email from southcoastevents@brighton.ac.uk which will contain a link that will allow you to access the details of your booking.

Who are the tests for?

The tests are for students and colleagues who are not showing any symptoms – it is designed to identify people who are potentially infectious but are asymptomatic. It’s possible to be positive with COVID-19 but not be aware of it.

Getting your tests

These tests are known as Lateral Flow Tests and can be self-administered at one of our test centres. They don’t need to be sent to a lab and you’ll receive your results the same day.

What will happen

You will need to book two separate appointments with three clear days in between. Whatever the result of the first test, you need to continue following national safety guidelines and make sure you attend your second test too.
If you choose to, you can now book up to two tests a week.
In advance of your tests, please download the NHS app and don’t forget to take your Student ID.
Travel to the test site and register on arrival – remember to practise social distancing, wear a face covering if you’re able to and avoid public transport
You’ll be given a test kit with a barcode, and instructions on how to take the test.
Once your test is complete, leave the test site, taking your barcode with you – remember to practise social distancing, wear a face covering if able to and avoid public transport
Wait for your results to be sent to you by text or email.

If your test is positive

If you test positive on either of your first two tests, or any subsequent tests, you will need to self-isolate from the date of your first positive notification for 10 days.

After the self-isolation period it will be possible to return to campus.

If your test is negative

If all of your tests are negative, you don’t need to take any further action but please continue to observe national restrictions on social gathering and good practice including social distancing, hand washing, and wearing of masks.
