Image Analysis Unit
The unit houses some of the most advanced microscopes in the south-east, including two high-resolution electron microscopes offering scanning and transmission electron microscopy.
These can examine, image, and analyse a variety of materials at up to one million times magnification with a visible resolution of one or two nanometres.
Moisture-containing samples can also be examined in their native state, using the latest ‘environmental chamber’ technology which can work at hydrated high pressure environments.
We offer a wide range of analytical techniques, including structural, compositional, elemental and particle analysis of polymers, biomedical materials, pharmaceuticals and soils.
Category 3 microbiology unit
This secure laboratory is currently used for work into infection control and is available for contract research in environmental and public health.
The Image and Analysis Unit has been used successfully by a variety of organisations, including Allergy Therapeutics, with the collaboration leading to the team winning the 2006 Sussex Business Enterprise Awards for the best interaction between business and a Sussex-based university.
