Joy Louis Aloor, Head of Power Technologies at Siemens PTI
Siemens Power Technologies International provides thought leadership to the power industry on policy development, regulatory advisory, system architecture, system integration and expertise required to combine individual equipment components to a complete power supply system.Joy Louis Aloor, Head of Power Technologies, presented the technologies, projects, and products that are shaping the science and industry of energy storage, as well as new directions for energy storage and how the market is expected to evolve in the short to medium term.
Nick Heyward, Head of Energy Storage at Origami Energy
Nick Heyward, Head of Energy Storage at Origami Energy, gave an overview of the financing and funding mechanisms available to developer of energy storage systems at a range of scales (from domestic to industrial level) and presented their perspective on the potential for the sector in Sussex.
Origami Energy has developed an optimisation and aggregation platform for the intelligent management of distributed energy assets. Their solution is designed to create additional value for asset owners, and help make the electricity grid network more efficient, lower carbon and less capital-intensive.
Thomas Maidonis, Energy Economist at National Grid
National Grid owns the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. They are responsible for "keeping the lights on" as we evolve to a low-carbon economy, developing a smart, flexible system that makes the best use of all the energy resources available.
Thomas Maidonis is an energy economist in National Grid's Power Responsive team. His talk described how the challenges of the future transmission and distribution grid will be met through solutions such as virtual power plants, dynamic load management, direct marketing, control reserves and other grid services.
