CENTRIM

The Centre for Research in Innovation Management (CENTRIM) explores contemporary innovation management issues. Through applied research and consultancy, CENTRIM both expands the knowledge base and has a tangible impact on organisations by improving innovation performance.

We are academics with a difference. We are immersed in industry. We undertake research with passion, believing we can make a difference. We work closely with practitioners, gaining invaluable insight. We create and deliver products and services that help businesses grow.

As researchers, we are well-placed to impart knowledge, but we recognise that practitioners have experience to share too. We work in partnership with organisations to develop the research agenda and co-produce knowledge, addressing industry challenges whilst answering academically demanding questions.

Our research is multi-disciplinary and collaborative, allowing us to draw in expertise from fellow academics, professionals and business leaders. Internationally recognised, we have recently been supported and funded by bodies including the European Commission, Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta). We build engagement, disseminate our findings widely and focus on the practical implementation of research-based business tools and training.

Our research falls into four key areas:

  • Delivering strategic change through projects and programmes
  • Innovation and design in the creative economy
  • Innovation, knowledge and entrepreneurial dynamics
  • Users and new forms of innovation

However, by its very nature, our work is dynamic. As projects mature, we respond by developing fresh, new ideas. As we move with the times, we expect our research interests to change and reflect our ongoing quest to unearth cutting edge ways to manage innovation. We believe our commitment to pioneering research enriches our unique research environment, teaching and industry engagement.

Professor Tim Brady
Head of CENTRIM

We are delighted that the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014 recognises the influence of our Business School research, 92 per cent of which was rated as internationally excellent, internationally recognised or world-leading. This makes us a top five university for world-leading impact in Business and Management Studies.

Our mission

Our research mission is to consistently develop new knowledge and understanding of how innovation works in practice. Working with partners in industry, academia and government, we strive to produce groundbreaking concepts to explain, harness and improve innovation management. We generate data to test new theories and transfer our findings into boardrooms and beyond. We are researchers with a mission, exploiting new ideas and creating a better future.
