Join us for study, work or visit

The University of Brighton's Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories welcomes contact with academic researchers, current or prospective research students, independent researchers, and groups, organisations and institutions that engage with the study and practice of history, cultural memory, and the representation of 'the past' in narratives, images and discourse.

All who are interested in these issues and in understanding the relationship between the past, present and future are welcome to join one of our research seminars, symposia and conferences. We welcome proposals for engagement or collaboration, and hope that you will want to keep in touch with the centre and its activities.

Become a Researcher Member of the Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories. University of Brighton staff and postgraduate research students (doctoral and masters) with research interests relevant to the centre's aims, research themes and practices, and who would benefit from and contribute to our work, are welcome to join. Details of how to apply for membership can be found on our Centre for Memory Narrative and Histories blog site.

Study for your PhD with the Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories

The Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories invites applications to undertake postgraduate research leading to PhD or MPhil awards on topics that relate to any of our fields of interest and the supervisory expertise of the centre’s staff, especially topics that contribute to one of our thematic research areas.

We welcome innovative approaches to interdisciplinary research grounded in theories and methods drawn from right across the arts, humanities and social sciences, and we support both academic and practice-based PhD projects.

The Centre for Memory, Narrative and Histories has a long-standing reputation for support with research degree studies and offers help with preparation of high-quality PhD proposals and funding applications. As a postgraduate research student you will be an active member of the centre with opportunities to play a key role in the conception and organisation of our research events, to propose ideas and initiate activities, to present your own work and to make beneficial interdisciplinary networks with academics and other postgraduate research students both inside and outside the University of Brighton.

For further information please contact the centre via MemoryNarrativeHistories@brighton.ac.uk, visit our 'Who we are' staff profiles for details on our academic supervisory staff,  or explore the links below.
