Led by Dr Sandra Sacre, Musculoskeletal research at the University of Brighton investigates the pathology of a wide range of musculoskeletal diseases.

We bring together scientists across many areas, encouraging a cross disciplinary approach to addressing key scientific questions. Researchers with a clear fundamental scientific focus, work closely alongside clinical investigators.

The research team is comprised of scientists from the University of Brighton, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, clinicians from the local hospital trust, and collaborations with the wider national and international research community. Researchers are dedicated to improving the understanding of musculoskeletal diseases to aid the development of new diagnostic tools and therapies.

We are also committed to developing the next generation of researchers, giving the opportunity to undergraduate, postgraduate and early career researchers to develop their research skills within an inclusive environment.

Our mission

Our mission is to cultivate a collaborative environment of research and clinical expertise to understand better the pathologies of the musculoskeletal system. Through the application of a diverse range of research capability we intend to further the understanding of musculoskeletal disease, improving both our diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. We aim to improve patient quality of life, the cost to society as a whole, while reducing the burden of these disorders on our health services.
