Transformation critical partnership and review

For over five years, our researchers have been associated with the provision of academic critical review under the framework of ‘critical friendship’ with a significant local government project in Northern Ireland. The project itself represents one of the largest local government transformations in the UK, where self-organised groups of staff and members have generated a strategic initiative to guide the infrastructure and process within radical structural change.

This project commenced in 2011 and is ongoing.

Project objectives

The objective of this project is to provide academic support and critique for the evolving People and Organisational Development Framework centred at the Local Government Staff Commission. We present at ongoing conferences and workshops, and promulgate critical/practical learning through conferences and eventual publication.

Papers have been generated for conference discussions and eventual publication.

For example, the team are Panel Chairs for the International Research Society for Public Management conference to be held in Hong Kong April 2016, where the learning from the project has formed the nature for the submission invited to this particular panel track.

Feedback from our partners suggest our critical academic inputs have been valuable, well received and had impact in the overall process.
