Peshawa Aljaf

Peshawa is a PhD student at the University of Brighton. He has a varied geological and hydrogeological research and practice background, with a BSc in Geology (2001), MSc in Environmental Geology (2010). Prior to beginning the PhD program, Peshawa worked as a senior hydrogeologist in groundwater sector. He consulted on a variety of projects in overseas, involving groundwater resources, aquifer pollutions, hydrocarbon pollution and migration in the aquifer, geophysical investigation in groundwater, drilling and development of deep water boreholes. His research interests involve recharge process in dual porosity rocks and contaminant transport.

Modelling flow of water in the chalk unsaturated zone

My research

Recharge of the chalk aquifer depends on the amount of precipitation, and subsequently on a range of environmental and geological parameters ranging from vegetation cover, through soil type, to the hydraulic properties of the rock material and the extent of fracturing. This project will seek to improve understanding of aquifer recharge processes in the chalk through analysis of field monitoring data and chemical characterisation of groundwater bodies, and to produce improved models for recharge using computer modelling approaches.
