I received a BA (Hons) in Human Movement Studies from Rhodes University in South Africa and went on to gain a PgDip in Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University. The following year, I earned my Masters in Medical Sciences at Sheffield University before transferring to Aberdeen University and completing a PhD in Exercise Physiology in 1996. In 1997, I acquired a PGCHE in Learning and Teaching from South Bank University.
I first worked as a Lecturer in Sports Science at Aberdeen College between 1993 and 1996 before taking a post as Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at South Bank University and being promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1998. I moved to the University of Glasgow in 1999 as a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology and became a Reader in 2005. I was appointed Professor of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Brighton in 2013. In addition, I am a visiting professor at the University of Rome ‘Foro Italico’ in Italy and an adjunct professor at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.
Professor Yannis Pitsiladis has supervised 18 PhD students to successful completion, and overseen the work of eight research fellows.
