On-campus non-residential summer schools

Closing date for applications: Tuesday 31 May 2022

Our on-campus non-residential summer schools give you the opportunity to take part in an intensive, project-based university experience in a specific subject. You'll get a taste of what to expect if you choose to study at higher education and develop your skills and evidence to support UCAS applications.

We have non-residential summer schools in photography, and business and management.

  • Photography: Monday 27 June to Thursday 30 June 2022
  • Business and management: Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 July 2022

At the summer school you will work with current University of Brighton students and academic staff on an extended project, developing skills and techniques to build on your current level of study.

Business school team work

What to expect at the photography non-residential summer school

At our photography summer school you'll be challenged to work both collaboratively and independently (with the support of our student ambassadors) to develop an individual photography portfolio.

The programme will incorporate activities including technical workshops, independent research and a visit to a gallery. Part of the independent project work will involve developing your critical skills, selecting final images to be printed and displayed in an exhibition in our space at City campus.

What to expect at the business non-residential summer school

At our business summer school you will be work collaboratively with other students to address a realistic business problem.

Over the course of three days, you'll develop and present a solution and be supported to reflect on your experience in a way that will support you with future university and employment applications and interviews. The summer school will be held at our Moulsecoomb campus in our new developed business and law building, Elm House.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost?

Nothing! There is no cost to participate in the summer school, and all materials and lunches are included. You will need to make your own way to and from our campus in Brighton each day.

Who can attend?

Applications from all students will be considered, however, places are limited so we will give priority to students in year 12 who meet our widening participation criteria.

What's the difference between non-residential and residential summer schools?

The main difference is that at non-residential summer schools you'll make your own way to and from campus each day, and at residential summer schools you'll stay on campus for four days, staying overnight in university halls of residence.

Still got questions?

They might be answered on our FAQ page. Or email us at outreach@brighton.ac.uk.

I've learnt that making friends and meeting new people is a lot easier than I thought, which has made me feel less nervous about university. Doing the presentation has let me see how independent work and teamwork are important. My experience has helped me develop my confidence.
