Can I do a short course at the university’s School of Art?
Yes, we are offering a number of two, four and five day-long summer courses in July 2020, all based at our City campus, at 58–67 Grand Parade, Brighton, BN2 0JY.
We are close to the sea and the Royal Pavilion, and only 12 minutes walk from the railway station. Courses run from 10.30am to 4.30pm each day.
Which courses can I choose from?
We have summer courses in drawing, fashion and textiles, making handmade books, jewellery and metalwork, woodwork, ceramics and plastics, photography, and printmaking… and even one on planning an exhibition.
How old do I have to be to enrol on a summer course?
Our summer courses are for adults aged 18 and over. There is no upper age limit.
Do I need experience to join a summer course?
No, all our courses are suitable for people with no experience in our specialisms. They are a great opportunity to try out something completely new to you. Some of our courses are also suitable for those of you with some experience already. There is something for everyone.
How many people will there be in my class?
We aim to keep our classes small. Class sizes vary, depending on the specialism.
Who teaches the courses?
All our courses are taught by people who also teach on our degree courses. As well as teaching, our tutors have their own professional practice, and many are leaders in their fields.
Do I get a qualification at the end of this course?
No, these courses do not lead to a qualification but we can provide a certificate of attendance, if you have attended at least 80% of the course.
I don’t live in Brighton. Can I book university accommodation?
Phoenix Halls, the university’s centrally located en-suite accommodation with shared kitchens and free on-site parking, is available to short course students during the summer months.
When do I have to book my course?
We recommend you book your course as early as possible. Places are limited and our courses are very popular.
I would like to bring a group of colleagues for our organisation's away day. Is that possible?
We would be happy to tailor a creative experience or programme to your specific requirements. Contact us for an initial discussion, with no obligation, and we can take it from there.
