Professional accreditation
The course is fully accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). At the end of the second year you have the option of undertaking a placement year which may contribute towards the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence.
About the course
Building surveyors are key professionals in the construction and property industries, being involved in the development, management, conservation, refurbishment and rehabilitation of all types of buildings.
This course will provide you with key skills in construction technology, property management and the law of landlord and tenant, preparing you for work within many areas of the extensive property field.
Building Surveyors benefit from high levels of employment, even at times of low growth, because their skills are relevant to the sustainable management of existing property as well as the design and project management of new-build property.

A-levels:
BBB. Applicants with only two full A-levels or a double award will be considered on an individual basis.
ND/C (Level 3):
MMM.
International Baccalaureate:
32 points.
QAA-approved access course:
not acceptable.
GCSE (minimum grade C):
at least three subjects including English language, mathematics and a science.
Foundation degree/HND
direct to year 2 for suitable applicants. HNC may also count towards direct entry.
For non-native speakers of English:
IELTS 6.0 overall, with 6.0 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in the other elements.
Other:
Applications from mature candidates with built environment experience are welcome but are subject to RICS requirements. Contact us for details.

Course structure
Seminars, presentations, field trips, visits and projects support the lecture programme.
Activity weeks take place in each semester allowing time for concentrated design projects, surveying practice, site visits to construction projects and heritage buildings, and overseas study trips to Berlin, Amsterdam or Barcelona.
Areas of study
This course provides a technical and practical education, progressively expanding your knowledge and abilities, while encouraging independent thinking and competence. The diversity of potential career paths is reflected in the wide breadth of module subjects.
Students develop the skills to resolve technical, financial, legal and managerial issues associated with the property industry, the environment and the economy as a whole. Communication and presentational skills are cultivated as an integral part of the course.

The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2012-13. Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study and may be subject to small increases, in line with inflation.
The tuition fee you have to pay depends on a number of factors including the kind of course you take, and whether you study full- or part-time. If you are studying part-time you will normally be charged on a pro rata basis depending on the number of modules you take.
What's included in the fee?
When costs such as health or criminal record checks, field trips or use of specialist materials are incurred as a mandatory requirement of the course they are included in your tuition fee.
You may incur additional costs depending on the optional modules or activities you choose. The cost of optional activities is not included in your tuition fee and you will need to meet this cost in addition to your fees. Graduates are equipped with a sound knowledge of materials, construction, technology, surveying and investigative techniques, building pathology, and management skills appropriate to careers in surveying, management, contracting, design, development and planning.
