This course is accredited by the Association of International Accountants (AIA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS). Graduates will be exempt from some of the foundation level exams set by these professional bodies.

About the course

This three-year degree develops a solid grounding in economics, business law, finance, organisational behaviour, marketing, research methods and people management. Up-to-date case studies are used to illustrate the application of business theory to real-world scenarios.

Practical skills development is central to this course. You will gain expertise in project management, report writing, time management, presenting, budgeting, team working and leadership.

This is a highly flexible degree which allows you to tailor your studies to your strengths and interests. You can specialise in economics, finance, human resource management or marketing. Should you choose to specialise, your final degree title will reflect the choice you have made and will clearly demonstrate your area of expertise.

This three-year course has almost the same curriculum content as the four-year Business Management BSc(Hons), but runs without the 12month job placement.

A-levels:
BBB. Applicants with only two full A-levels or a double award will be considered on an individual basis. Excludes General Studies.

ND/C (Level 3):
DDM.

International Baccalaureate:
32 points, including 16 at Higher level.

QAA-approved access course:
acceptable, subject-specific units.

GCSE (minimum grade C):
at least three subjects including English language and mathematics.

Foundation degree/HND
direct entry to year 2 may be possible with relevant subjects.

For non-native speakers of English:
IELTS 6.0, with 6.0 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in the other elements.

Fees and costs

The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2012-13. Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study and may be subject to small increases, in line with inflation.

The tuition fee you have to pay depends on a number of factors including the kind of course you take, and whether you study full- or part-time. If you are studying part-time you will normally be charged on a pro rata basis depending on the number of modules you take.

What's included in the fee?

When costs such as health or criminal record checks, field trips or use of specialist materials are incurred as a mandatory requirement of the course they are included in your tuition fee.

You may incur additional costs depending on the optional modules or activities you choose. The cost of optional activities is not included in your tuition fee and you will need to meet this cost in addition to your fees. If you choose to take the professional placement (sandwich) year offered on this course you will pay a reduced fee during this year. Our fee for the professional placement year is currently £750 for Home and Island Students and £1,760 for International students. This fee may be subject to small increases, in line with inflation.

You can also make the most of the location, and play volleyball, basketball and windsurfing down by the beach. The seafront is also the finishing point for the famous London – Brighton bicycle ride and the quirky veteran car run.
Staff profiles

Julie Fowlie, Course Leader

Julie's professional background is in management development within the financial services sector, which involved facilitating change through objective analysis, team building and leadership.

She joined the University of Brighton in 1999 and is the Director of Business Programmes for undergraduate courses. Julie co-ordinates the Professional and Academic Skills Modules as well as teaching Managing People and Human Resource Management.

Her main academic interests are the emotional dimension of leadership including emotional intelligence and most recently combining this construct with social marketing.

In 2009 she co-authored How to Succeed at University, an essential guide to academic skills and personal development at university.
