Transferring from another university

You may be able to transfer to Brighton during your first year. Maybe you’ve changed your mind about what you want to study, or you just think Brighton is a better fit? We’re here to help you make that change.

If you are still within your first four weeks of study it is usually straightforward to help you transfer, as long as the course still has places available. After that we would normally need you to have completed the first 60 credits of your year (out of 120 total) before we could consider whether you could join us for the second semester.

Before you transfer

Transferring is a big step to take – but nothing to be worried about. Here’s what you should do before you call us.

  • Explain your decision to your current personal tutor or course leader and find out how you can transfer with the minimum disruption to your studies.
  • Make sure you understand the practical and financial implications of changing university – in some cases you may have an extra year of study.
  • If you are looking to transfer later in the year, ask for an official transcript of your credits so we can review it.
  • After you’ve explored all your options and you’re sure about transferring, use our course search box to find the course you are interested in and look up its entry requirements.

We consider each request individually and will do our best to find the right course for you. But before we go ahead, we also have to consider how many places there are available and how well you meet the entry requirements.

Find your course

Ready to transfer course?

Once you are ready, call all our enquiries team on 01273 644644. They will talk you through the process and put you in touch with the admissions team for your chosen course.

You might be asked to provide information about your current course of study and the modules you have been taking, so do have this to hand.

If, after careful consideration, we think that a transfer to a course at Brighton is in your best interests we will ask you to complete our direct application form.

Depending on the course you have applied for, you could be asked to provide a portfolio of your work.

We strongly advise you to visit the university before making your final decision to transfer here. We run open days and other events online throughout the year.
