International undergraduate fees

Students who normally live outside of the UK usually pay international tuition fees.

The tuition fee you pay is based on your fee status and the course you study. Your fee status is assessed based on criteria published by the UK government. We may need to confirm your fee status during the application process.

We assess all cases against the same criteria. You can find information about fee status for higher education on the UKCISA website.

Tuition fees for 2022–23 academic year

Standard tuition fees for full-time international students starting in 2022–23
Course typeFees for 2022–23
Classroom-based courses £13,842
Non-classroom (laboratory/workshop-based) courses £15,462
Placement year £2,120
Medicine See BSMS website

Some courses charge different fees and you should confirm the tuition fee for the course you are applying for by using our course finder.

Tuition fees are usually charged on an academic year / annual basis, depending on a student’s tuition fee status and the applicable fee regime. Fees will be subject to an annual review, and may increase annually throughout the student’s period of enrolment on the course (subject to any maximum regulated tuition fee limit).

Fees for international students at partner colleges

Fees for international students studying at the university's partner colleges are set by the colleges, not the university. You should therefore contact your partner college for information on course fees.

Paying your international tuition fee deposit

If you are a self-funded international student and you require a UK visa to study with us, you are required to pay a tuition fee deposit. The deposit must be paid before we can issue you with your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number, which you will need in order to apply for your visa.

The tuition fee deposit for 2022-23 is £3,000. If you are starting a course with us in September 2022 you must pay your tuition fee deposit by 31 August 2022.

Your tuition fee deposit should be paid using the University of Brighton’s payment service, powered by our partner Flywire, which allows you to pay in the currency of your choice in a simple and secure way.

Certain categories of students are not required to pay a deposit.

The deposit is generally considered non-refundable, but will be refunded in certain circumstances.

To find out more please see our international tuition fee deposit refund policy.

Paying the rest of your tuition fees

You can pay your fees in full as soon as you have accepted your offer, if you choose.

Alternatively, following the payment of your deposit, if required, you must pay your remaining tuition fees in 3 instalments. If you are starting your course with us in September 2022 the deadlines for the 3 instalments will be:

  • 50% of total fees paid by 31 October 2022.
  • A further 25% of total fees paid by 31 January 2023.
  • The final 25% of total fees paid by 30 April 2023.

As an example, if your total fees for the 2022-23 academic year are £15,462, your instalment plan will look like this if you are required to pay a deposit:

Example of instalment plan with deposit
Payment % Total fees paid Deadline*
Deposit
 £3,000.00
 19%
 31 August 2022
Instalment 1 - 50% less deposit
 £4,731.00
 50%
 31 October 2022
Instalment 2 - 25%
 £3,865.50
 75%
 31 January 2023
Instalment 3 - 25%
 £3,865.50
 100%
 30 April 2023
TOTAL
 £15,462.00

*based on a September 2022 start date.

Or, for example, your instalment plan will look like this if you are not required to pay a deposit:

Example of instalment plan without deposit
Payment % Total fees paid Deadline*
Instalment 1 - 50%   £7,731.00  50%  31 October 2022
Instalment 2 - 25%  £3,865.50  75%  31 January 2023
Instalment 3 - 25%  £3,865.50  100%  30 April 2023
TOTAL  £15,462.00

*based on a September 2022 start date.

If you do not pay your fees by each deadline, the University may act to recover the fees, as outlined in the University’s Tuition Fee Policy.

Fully or partially officially sponsored international students

If a third-party sponsor is paying your fees, you should provide their invoicing details via Student View. A scanned copy of a financial guarantee will be acceptable.

Sponsors should ensure that student fees are paid in full by 1 November of the relevant academic year, or within four weeks of the student’s course start date if this is later than 1 November.

As a student you remain ultimately responsible for the payment of your tuition fees, including where a sponsorship agreement has been approved (refer to the Student Contract).

How to pay

All tuition fee payments, including deposits, should be made using the University’s payment platform operated by Flywire.

If a third party sponsor is paying your fees, you should provide their invoicing details via Student View. A scanned copy of a financial guarantee will be acceptable.

As a student you remain ultimately responsible for the payment of your tuition fees, including where a sponsorship agreement has been approved (see the Student Contract).

What is included in the fees?

Mandatory requirements for your course are covered by the tuition fees. These include things such as health or criminal record checks, specialist materials and mandatory field trips.

Optional field trips, accommodation and course materials are not included in the tuition fees and you will need to pay for these yourself. Please contact the school that delivers your course about possible extra costs before you apply.
