You'll belong here
Exciting, independent, inclusive – it's a place like no other
Just like the city we call home, the University of Brighton attracts all kinds of people, often united by a commitment to positive change. It's forward thinking, leading the way in arts, creative technology and the environment. There are amazing opportunities to build on your studies by getting involved in city life (and its reputation for fun goes without saying). Brighton is a top 10 student city in the UK (and top 100 worldwide) according to the QS rankings.
Brighton manages to be a really relaxed seaside town and a buzzing centre for young people, meaning you can never be bored but also never overwhelmed. As a city it’s very progressive and everyone is welcomed and treated with respect and tolerance. Being by the sea is so calming and relaxing and gives an openness to the whole city – and it also makes the summers brilliant.

You'll develop employability skills while you study
Personal skills development (like project management or emotional intelligence) and work experience (like placements or project briefs from industry) are built into your course. Outside the classroom, you can boost your experience through volunteering, mentoring, entrepreneurship, sport and societies. We’ll help you to get as much as you can out of your time here, so that you can go on to find, or to create, work that excites and rewards you. We're in the top 50 in England for graduate outcomes in the Complete University Guide 2024 league table.
Employability to me means have I got the skills, knowledge and ability to go and do whatever I choose in the future? I feel like I could walk into any job, disregard teaching completely, and know that I’ve worked on things like being organised, time-keeping, working to deadlines, which are all essential employability skills.

Our support system
You’ll be part of a caring community that builds you up
We don't just want you to succeed, we want you to feel good too – in yourself and your life as well as your studies.
We'll help you prioritise your emotional and mental wellbeing with a support system that includes teams of advisers and specialists who are here for you. We also share self-help tools and create ways for students to support one another – to keep you feeling good.
Homesickness, loneliness, problems with their course – students come and talk to us. Everybody gets stressed sometimes and that’s absolutely fine; we help students manage it so that it doesn’t become distress. I give students space, time, a listening ear and some guidance and often they have the answers themselves.

You'll learn your way
Discover and play to your strengths on our inclusive and flexible courses
We look at who you are – your resourcefulness, persistence and potential – as well as your grades. We’ll support your transition from school to university and offer you personalised learning and support. We have close working relationships with professional bodies and employers and deliver practical, problem-based learning that develops the skills that matter to employers.
You don’t feel pressured or intimidated by the lecturers, they’re so down to earth. They let you know that "I'm your professor but I’m also a person just like you" and I think that’s really cool. They acknowledge that everyone has different strengths and they encourage you to communicate with them.

I liked living in halls. I don’t know if it was just because it was the first time I had my full independence, but I liked socialising in the flats while also having some space to myself. Then I lived in shared houses with friends I made on my course, it’s been great. I’ve really enjoyed it, some of the best memories you make are living with your mates.
