Addressing global challenges through research and knowledge exchange

Our world is facing a set of unprecedented global challenges. From hunger, poverty and water to clean energy, sustainable communities and climate change, it is critical that we all rethink how we live, work and learn.

Global Challenges sets out how we will do that. It is more than a programme, initiative, or project. It is a mission and a commitment to tackle the pressing issues facing our world in everything we do.

How does Global Challenges help frame our research and knowledge exchange?

Global Challenges frame our distinctive approach and strengthen our identity as a locally-embedded, globally-influential university.

We address global challenges through all our practices including teaching and learning, community engagement and our campus operations and organisational culture. Our activity tackles climate change and strives to improve equality and inclusivity, enhance wellbeing and promote creative and sustainable economies.

As a research and knowledge exchange community, and particularly through our Centres of Research Excellence and Research Excellence Groups, our work breaks boundaries, bringing together diverse disciplines, international partners and individuals from academia, industry and beyond. Through our collaborations and partnerships, we share our insights, solve practical problems and shape debate around creating a better future.
