Entry requirements

Masters-level degree courses typically require a first degree. However, if you don't hold this qualification but can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience, we will consider your application on the basis of your potential to benefit from, and contribute to, a course.

Entry requirements vary by course and may require specific subject knowledge. To find out about requirements in your area of interest use our course finder.

Credit accumulation and transfer scheme (CATS)

We operate a credit accumulation and transfer scheme. This scheme means that you can study at different UK or international universities for part of your degree.

For every postgraduate module that you pass at the University of Brighton, you receive a certain number of points. Most standard postgraduate modules have a value of 10 points. You can transfer these points to other higher education institutions, nationally and internationally, and they will be counted towards your qualifications there.

Credits earned from study in other institutions (whether CATS-rated or not) may give you exemption from part of University of Brighton courses.

English language requirements

For postgraduate study you need to have a good to ‘fully operational’ command of the language in most situations.

You can meet our English language requirements in two ways.

  • By demonstrating your ability to study and be examined in English through your previous academic record.
  • By providing certificated proof of having recently passed one of the English language qualifications listed below.

Find out about English language qualifications that we accept, including IELTS, Cambridge, PTE Academic, Trinity and TOEFL iBT.

Each of our courses has specific entry requirements, find out about the course you are interested in by visiting the course finder.
