Two renowned academics to join the Centre of Sport, Tourism and Leisure Studies.

Professor John Nauright, who leads the Centre of Sport, Tourism and Leisure Studies, has announced the arrival of Dr Declan Hill and Professor Tony Collins as visiting researchers. They joined the university at the end of February and will work with the centre researchers to enhance its fight for clean sport around the world.

Dr Declan Hill, investigative journalist and academic, is one of the world’s foremost experts on match-fixing and corruption in international sports. He has written two books outlining the dangers presented from gambling and match-fixing at the highest level. He has also given presentations about sports corruption to a number of organisations including the International Olympic Committee (IOC), committees at the European Parliament in Brussels and the UK Parliament in Westminster. Dr Hill will be specifically focusing on Anti-corruption battles in sport

Professor Tony Collins is Professor of History at De Montfort University's International Centre for Sports History and Culture and is the top sports historian in the UK. His latest book - a global history of the rugby codes - will be published by Bloomsbury in 2015. Professor Collins will work with researchers on a project that examines British-originated values of fair play, decorum, following the rules and behaviour expected in a good sportsperson and how we can reclaim and recast these values in the 21st Century.

Professor Nauright commented, “The arrival of these two leading experts in their field will help advance the research undertaken by our sport researchers as we fight against corruption and doping in national and international sport”

Professor Collins will also work with Professors Nauright and Pitsiladis in coordinating the Global Summit - The World in Union: Rugby, Past, Present and Future - which will be held at the Brighton Community Stadium and the university's Falmer campus 10-12 September 2015.”
