Beepurple is the unversity's enterprise network, which aims to develop our students' and graduates' entrepreneurial thinking.
Beepurple workshops, courses, enterprise competitions and practical challenges prepare and equip our graduates for a successful career in a complex global environment.
We welcome local business people and entrepreneurs to talk about their business experiences and share their expertise with our network.
Beepurple's services are available to current University of Brighton students, alumni and staff.
- Business and enterprise workshops
Run throughout the year, these workshops help students and graduates develop their enterprise skills. Sessions include networking opportunities with like-minded students, and local entrepreneurs and recent graduates who have set up businesses or charities who want to share their advice and experience.
Also open to the general public, at a charge of £10 per workshop.
- One-to-one business support
The beepurple team can support and advise University of Brighton staff, students and alumni to help develop business ideas forward and discuss any business issues.
- UltraVolet intensive summer course
A week long intensive training course aimed at University of Brighton students just finishing their degrees and hoping to gain practical job and enterprise skills.
- Beepurple champion scheme
Get involved with beepurple on a voluntary basis and have the opportunity to develop key project management skills by running a small project (with guidelines) to benefit the beepurple programme.
An annual ideas competition for students and graduates to reward the best business ideas. Prizes of up to £2500 are available and dedicated support to turn ideas into reality. Previous competition winners have gone on to win national awards, and secure National Lottery funding.
Opportunities for students and graduates to test their skills, by running elevator pitch competitions, fundraising tasks, and brainstorming solutions to two local businesses.
Beepurple in action
Laura Crow set up her own business, Laura Crow Photography, in 2005 after graduating from the University of Brighton with a BA (Hons) in Information and Media Studies
Based in Hove, Laura carries out a variety of work from events and portraiture to corporate artwork and worked with beepurple to help develop her business and enterprise skills.
Laura said: “beepurple has helped me learn about business and has therefore enabled me to be confident and sell my creative skill in the business world.
“Their intensive summer course, ‘Ultra Violet’ helped me perceive myself as a business person and gave me the chance to develop entrepreneurial skills and the confidence to develop my business.
“Being able to access the ongoing support of the team, one-to-one mentoring sessions and evening workshops, continually helps me to develop vital business skills including networking and marketing and learn new information on topics like intellectual Property– essential for every photographer!”
Laura hopes to make her business run more effectively through her website and by taking advantage of free social media networks and online tools.
