Types of courses explained

International students apply to the university in the same way as UK students, but there are different application procedures for different types of courses.

Undergraduate study

If you are applying for a full-time undergraduate degree course such as BA(Hons) or BSc(Hons) or an undergraduate integrated masters (MSci, MPharm or MEng), you can make your application through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), or by applying directly to us.

UCAS

UCAS is a centralised application service for all UK universities. In the course finder you will see that our undergraduate courses all include a UCAS code that you will need for your application.

Direct

In some circumstances you can apply direct to us using our online application system, which you can access from the course page. Apply direct if:

  • you already know that you want to study at Brighton and do not intend to apply to other institutions
  • you hold a foundation degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) and you are applying for a top-up degree.

Postgraduate study

If you are applying for a full-time postgraduate course (eg MA, MSc, MBA) you should complete the online application form. You can access this from the course page by clicking apply now.

Research study

If you are applying for a full-time research programme (MPhil, PhD) you should read our application guidance carefully.

You will need to find a suitable research supervisor to support your application and submit a detailed outline of your research proposal. After this, you will need to submit an online application form.

Comparing your qualifications

Information about the qualifications and level of English that you need to apply for each course is detailed in the entry requirements section on our course pages.

How do my qualifications compare?

If you do not have a UK qualification or an International Baccalaureate, you can use our international equivalencies guides to find out how your qualifications compare to UK qualifications.

You can also look at the UK National Information Centre's (UK ENIC) website to find out more about how qualifications and skills from overseas compare to the UK's qualifications.

How can I improve my qualifications?

If you do not have the qualifications that you need to apply for the course, or your qualification is not of a high enough level, you can do a university preparation course at our on-campus University of Brighton International College (UBIC).
