Silver award for teaching quality

The quality of teaching and learning environment experienced by students at the University of Brighton has been judged to consistently exceed the rigorous national requirements for Higher Education in the UK.

The outcome was announced as the results of the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) were published. These revealed that the University of Brighton has been awarded a Silver rating.

The TEF was introduced by the government to build evidence about the performance of the UK’s world-class higher education sector, complementing the existing Research Excellence Framework with an analysis of teaching and learning outcomes.

Ofsted inspections of Initial Teacher Education

Ofsted inspections of Initial Teacher Education are undertaken on a regular basis, and the quality of teaching has been graded as 'outstanding' or 'good' across a wide range of primary and secondary education courses.

The University of Brighton has become the only university in the country to achieve an 'outstanding' rating from the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) for management and quality assurance across the full range of primary, secondary and post-compulsory (16+) teacher education courses.

Visit the Ofsted website to read the full reports.

Professional accreditation

The majority of our students are on courses accredited by professional and statutory bodies. Successful completion of a professionally accredited course indicates that the student has reached the occupational standard required to practice that profession.

Professional bodies who accredit our courses include ACCA, the Health Professions Council, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, the British Computer Society, the Institutions of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Structural Engineers, RIBA, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Chartered Management Institute and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Regular course and subject review

At the University of Brighton we recognise that course development is essential to our academic vitality and sustainability. All our courses and modules are subject to annual monitoring. This process takes into account student feedback and performance as well as allowing academic staff to make the best use of their knowledge. As a result the choices and opportunities for students continue to be pertinent.

In addition, every five years each course undergoes a periodic review. These reviews allow us to reflect on subject and academic development over the period which, in combination with student feedback and involvement, ensures our courses are always among the most current and relevant available.
