Leaving a Legacy and In Memory Gifts

Legacy Giving

Making a will is one of the most important tasks any of us undertake in our lives. It is the only way to ensure that our loved ones are taken care of and our assets are distributed according to our wishes after our passing.

When writing a will, and after making provision for your loved ones, leaving a charitable gift in your will is an excellent way to support the University of Brighton.

Your support can be directed to any aspect of the university’s work that resonates personally, whether that is our research, improving teaching facilities or ensuring all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

We are unable to offer any formal legal or financial advice on will making or estate planning as we are not qualified advisors, however we have put together a few useful resources:

  • A legacy giving FAQ
  • A codicil form you can use to add a gift to your existing will
  • More details on how wills help the university

We would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about your legacy wishes and intentions. This will help us understand what you would like your legacy to achieve and ensure we can fulfil your intentions. We will also be able to acknowledge your decision and thank you in a way in which you are comfortable. We will always respect your wishes and understand if you would prefer to remain anonymous. Please complete our online legacy intentions form or email us giving@brighton.ac.uk

In Memory Gifts

Donations in memory are a wonderful way to celebrate your loved one’s life and passions. We have a number of ways for your loved one to be remembered through gifts made to the university. Whether it be a student prize or fund to expand research in a chosen field.

At the funeral or memorial service of your loved one, friends and family sometimes like to have the option of giving a donation gift to a charity. We are very grateful to all who remember their loved one with a gift to the University of Brighton in this way.

Funeral directors can arrange this for you and send your kind donations to us. Or, if you'd prefer to organise the collection yourself, you may wish to set up a JustGiving page or send a cheque. Please contact our team to discuss this further on giving@brighton.ac.uk.
