  • The University of Brighton Student Contract 2024-25

The University of Brighton Student Contract 2024-25

A university is a complex community and, like any community, we need regulations, policies and codes of conduct.

These are designed to protect and maintain two vital areas for you and the university:

  • academic quality – covered by academic regulations
  • our rights and responsibilities as members of the institution – covered by more general policies and guidance.

Understanding our Student Contract

These rules and regulations are complex and we don't expect you to know them all in detail. However, you need to know that they exist and their relevance to you as a student. The student contract comprises the main terms and conditions, a summary of the key terms and the regulations and policies listed below.

You may also have other contractual arrangements with other organisations, such as the Student Loans Company or accommodation provider. Make sure that you understand these separate arrangements.

All of the documents listed are available to download as pdfs unless stated otherwise.

Academic regulations

Academic regulations ensure that all students are treated in a fair way – from your admission to the university, to assessments and the qualifications that you are awarded. They describe the academic conduct expected of our students and staff, and set out criteria for making judgements about students’ academic performance. They also protect the academic standing of the university and the academic integrity of our awards.

General policies and guidance

General policies and guidance provide students with a safe and supportive environment to study, learn and socialise. All Brighton students and staff are expected to take responsibility for this, giving everyone the opportunity to realise their full potential.

Main terms and conditions

This document covers the main terms and conditions of the contractual relationship between you and the university, including the applicant stage. It highlights items that might be of particular interest, including our tuition fee policy, course changes and complaint handling.

Student complaints and academic appeals

We encourage students to try and resolve any concerns with their course, facilities or other university provision, by speaking to your school complaints officer first. This is so that matters can be resolved quickly and locally where possible. We recognise that this is not always possible, so further details of how to bring a formal complaint or an academic appeal are listed here.

How to bring a student complaint

  • Complaints guide for students (ppt)
