Black and black mixed heritage scholarships

Is this fund for you?

If your heritage is Black or Black Mixed, you are in your first year of undergraduate study, and a Home/UK student, then you are eligible to apply. See the full terms and conditions.

What does it provide?

£2,000 a year for three years of undergraduate study at the University of Brighton.

How many scholarships are available?

We can currently offer two a year, but we are aiming to increase this by raising more funds. These are funded by donations made by alumni and friends of the university.

When and how can I apply?

Applications will open again in 2023.

Calebtina Peprah on placement in a pharmacy

I am highly elated and honoured to have been awarded the scholarship offered to black students. Because of the funding I have received, I am confident that I will achieve my goals. I have been offered a placement in the community pharmacy, and I cannot wait to put what I have been taught in my first year into practice. This will shape my career and make me a better pharmacist in the next couple of years.

Calebtina Peprah, Pharmacy MPharm

Jade Adebiyi

I think scholarships are really good because that extra help really goes a long way. It provides so much support. I think it really helps a student progress in all ways – mentally, emotionally, educationally. It helps them reach their full potential, if they have someone saying ‘I’m routing for you. I’m supporting you’. You don’t just get money, you also get mentoring and the opportunity to be an ambassador. If other students are thinking of applying to the scholarship, I would say just apply and give it a chance. I applied and I didn’t think I was going to get it and then I did.

Jade Adebiyi, Black and Black Mixed Heritage Scholarship, Biomedical Sciences BSc(Hons), second year.
