Support for international students

The International Student Advice Service provides high-quality support and advice for students from outside the UK. Our service is free, confidential and non-judgmental.

Support and guidance

We have two International Student Support Officers, Sarah Digon and Sarah Herbert, who can help you with:

  • Practical advice about living in the UK eg local shopping and transport, opening a UK bank account, accessing healthcare
  • Information about social activities on and off campus
  • Support for homesickness and culture shock
  • Advice on financial hardship
  • Support through times of crisis.

You can drop in and talk to us in Tithe Barn at the Moulsecoomb campus on Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm (10am to 1pm outside term time). Talk to us on other campuses by appointment. Advice for new international students

Visas and immigration

We have three International Student Advisers who can help you with advice on:

  • Making a visa application to start a course at the university, and extending your visa to repeat a year or go on to further study
  • Implications of intermitting, withdrawing and intercalating from a course, as well as taking re-sits or resubmitting assignments
  • Visa routes for working in the UK after your studies
  • Visa restrictions and conditions e.g. working hours, Police registration
  • Schengen visas to travel within the EU.

We also provide advice to EU and EEA nationals on:

  • Making an application for settled or pre-settled status in the UK
  • Rights of EU and EEA nationals once the UK has left the EU.
