University of Brighton English language test

The Brighton English language test is designed for students who have either already applied, or for students who are intending to apply for a University of Brighton degree course.

Talk to us about our English language test

What is the test?

The Brighton English language test is for students who have either applied or would like to apply for a University of Brighton undergraduate or postgraduate degree course.

The test takes about 2 ½ hours and will assess your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

The result of your test will show you the level and type of English language pathway programme you need to start a University of Brighton degree course.

The test only costs £50.

How can the results be used?

  • To assess whether you are eligible for direct entry to a University of Brighton degree course without needing to study an English language pre-sessional course before, without the need to take an additional SELT.
  • To assess whether you are eligible for the 12 or 8 week Extended Masters programme, without the need to take an additional SELT.
  • To provide you with an indication of your current language level so you can be better prepared to follow a study plan for taking a SELT.

The test will also give you the opportunity to meet us and ask any questions about our English language preparation programmes.
