Vivian Wall, studying BA(Hons) Architecture, has been awarded a ‘RIBA Part 1 Education Fund Bursary’ which provides long-term financial support to architecture students “demonstrating talent and commitment to their studies, who might struggle to cover the costs of living and course-related expenditure”.
RIBA said the bursaries have been made possible “by generous donations from the Walter Parker Trust, the Rosenberg Memorial Fund and the Ayyub Malik Trust; as well as monies raised through the RIBA Education Fund.
“To be eligible, students must be enrolled in the first year of a RIBA Part 1 course in the UK. Recipients receive a maximum of £6,000 distributed in £1,000 termly instalments throughout the second and third years of study.”
Vivian submitted a personal statement and five pages from her portfolio for the bursary.
She said: “Disbelief summarises my reaction when I first found out that I was awarded the bursary. My response was something along the lines of ‘Wait, really!?’
“An overall sense of gratitude, however, is what I truly feel. This bursary not only assists with my education but will greatly inspire me to jump higher and leap further after seeing what I’m capable of achieving. I couldn’t be more thankful.
“My major fascination with my studies is learning about the hidden technologies behind a beautiful design. I’m incredibly excited to continue my course as I head into my second year.”
