Announced by the European Commission, the University of Brighton has retained its HR Excellence in Research Award.
18 May 2020
The award recognises the continued and innovative work by the university to enhance working conditions for researchers as set out in the European Charter and Code. The award was retained following the university’s eight-year review.
Conducted by an international peer reviewer team, the rigorous assessment confirms that the University of Brighton has shown clear commitment to engaging with the principles of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers and improving research environment and culture. Vitae, which administers the Award, highlighted efforts made to engage with and embed the Early Career Researcher community into institutional decision making, initiatives including the research mentoring scheme and achievements in addressing the equality agenda through Athena Swan, the Race Charter Award and being a top 100 Stonewall employer.

I am grateful to the team in Research, Enterprise and Social Partnerships (RESP) and the Concordat Implementation Steering Group who prepared our submission and to the entire research and enterprise community at the university for making this recognition possible through their efforts and teamwork.
