European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award for the University of Brighton

University of Brighton has retained its HR Excellence in Research Award, the European Commission has announced.

11 April 2022

The award recognises the sustained and innovative work by the university to enhance working conditions and career development opportunities for researchers. Administered by Vitae, the award was retained following the university’s ten-year review.

The rigorous independent assessment confirms that the University of Brighton has shown clear commitment to engaging with the principles of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers and improving research environment and culture. The principles form the framework for the support, development and management of researchers’ careers, and set out clear standards that research staff can expect from the university, as well as their own responsibilities as researchers, working in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Professor Rusi Jaspal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange), said: “We are delighted to have retained the HR Excellence in Research Award, demonstrating the University of Brighton’s long-term commitment to the career development of our researchers.

“At the University of Brighton, we are proud of our research and knowledge exchange activity, which enriches our teaching, drives important partnerships and collaborations, and produces new knowledge and positive societal impact. Nurturing talent is central to our commitment to empower and support all researchers and to create a vibrant, agile research environment.

“This award is testament to the collective efforts of our Research and Knowledge Exchange team, the Concordat Implementation Steering Group who prepared our submission, and the entire research and knowledge exchange community at the university. Our robust action plan aims to ensure that current and future staff are able to realise their potential and reflects our pledge to continue developing a positive, inclusive and supportive research and knowledge exchange culture.”
