Bhavik Patel, Professor of Clinical and Bioanalytical Chemistry in the School of Applied Sciences at University of Brighton, has been included in The Analytical Scientist's 2023 Power List.
Nominated by readers of The Analytical Scientist and then selected by an expert panel of judges, this year’s list celebrates “Ten Years of Excellence and Impact in Analytical Science” and coincides with the publication’s 10-year anniversary. Bhavik has been specifically recognised as one of the top 25 mentors and educators over the last ten years.
Commenting on making the prestigious list, Professor Patel said: “It is a real honour to be recognized in this year's Power List as one of the top 100 most influential people in analytical science over the past decade – specifically, as one of the top 25 mentors and educators.”
Professor Bhavik Patel
Professor Patel’s journey at the University of Brighton started when he secured a place to study at Brighton through Clearing. Since joining the university’s teaching staff in 2010, Bhavik has taught thousands of undergraduate and postgraduate students. His innovative teaching models have inspired colleagues at Brighton and across the UK and been implemented by institutions in the USA, Switzerland and Bangladesh among others.
This commitment to innovation has seen him win multiple awards, including most recently the Royal Society of Chemistry’s 2023 Analytical Science Mid-career Prize in recognition of brilliance in research, and the RSC’s 2021 Excellence in Higher Education teaching prize which recognised him as a world-leading innovative educator, a champion for quality and diversity, and a powerful advocate for raising the profile of chemistry to inspire future generations.
Professor Patel continued: “An educator's most important quality is to inspire the future generation of analytical scientists, making it critical that underrepresented groups are encouraged, and their voices are amplified. It is our responsibility to inspire the future generation by reaching out to schools to showcase the important role analytical scientists play within society.”
