Brighton ranked in global top 10 cities for nightlife

The annual rankings are based on responses from more than 24,000 people across 150 cities worldwide and assess a range of factors including diversity, safety, affordability, community and how welcoming a city feels, alongside its nightlife offering.

Brighton achieved the highest community score in the survey, with 84% of local people saying it is easy to meet others and feel part of the community. The city was also recognised as one of the world's most diverse and inclusive destinations and praised for its welcoming culture and vibrant LGBTQ+ scene.

The recognition builds on Brighton's growing reputation as one of the world's most distinctive and progressive cities. Last year, Time Out named Brighton among the world's best cities, highlighting its cultural offer, sustainability credentials, diversity, independent spirit and welcoming atmosphere.

For the University of Brighton, the findings reflect many of the qualities that attract students, staff and partners to the city.

What's particularly encouraging about this recognition is that it shows the city's appeal goes far beyond a night out.

"People have recognised Brighton as a place where diversity is celebrated, communities are welcoming and individuals can feel a genuine sense of belonging. Those qualities are central to Brighton's identity and closely reflect our own values as a university.

The University of Brighton has been named the UK's most LGBTQ+ friendly university in a national student survey, while also receiving a Stonewall Gold Award and being recognised among Stonewall's Top 100 Employers.

Its researchers have helped local food businesses improve sustainability through practical tools designed to reduce waste, while collaborations with organisations, charities and businesses across the region help drive innovation and create opportunities for students and graduates.
