Do you know how to tell if you have high blood pressure? Have you ever checked your blood pressure at home? Or perhaps you know someone who has? Did you know that 20 years ago – nobody did this?
In this lecture, Professor Richard McManus will talk about how his team has changed the way patients and doctors think about diagnosing high blood pressure and improving blood pressure control. This is a story of answering the question “can patients look after their health?” as well as “should doctors and nurses be measuring blood pressure routinely?”. It’s also a fascinating investigation of what happens to the hearts of pregnant mothers with high blood pressure and how involving them in their own care can make a big difference to their long-term risk of heart disease and stroke. The story involves a large supporting cast and takes place as our Professor of General Practice travels from Birmingham to Oxford and then to Brighton…
Whether you're a healthcare professional, patient, student or simply curious about how blood pressure control has an impact on health, this lecture offers thought-provoking insight into this important topic.
