Welcome to the twentieth issue of our Research and Knowledge Exchange Magazine, published in autumn term 2025 and introduced by our Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange), Professor Rusi Jaspal.
____________
Research and knowledge exchange lie at the heart of the University of Brighton’s mission. They enrich our teaching, strengthen our partnerships and collaborations, and generate new knowledge that responds to real-world need. In this issue, we share a selection of highlights that showcase the reach, relevance and impact of our work, and that speak both to external audiences and to colleagues and students across the university who contribute to this collective endeavour.
Our research is increasingly visible and influential. You will read how our innovations in health, sustainability and society are hitting the headlines and shaping public conversation. We are also proud to once again have achieved sector-leading results in the Knowledge Exchange Framework, a powerful endorsement of the ways in which we work with businesses, communities and public and third-sector partners to deliver economic, social and cultural value.
Partnership and co-production remain central to how we work. We mark seven years of the Ignite programme, which continues to support small, focused collaborations that start with issues that matter most to our community partners. Since 2019, Ignite has supported more than 50 projects with over 100 partners, demonstrating how collaborative research can build evidence, test ideas and deliver meaningful impact locally, nationally and internationally.
There are many opportunities to engage and be inspired in the months ahead. Thank you for your continued commitment and collaboration. I wish you a restful and restorative festive break, and look forward to returning in the new year to create new knowledge, share crucial insights and make a lasting difference, together.
With best wishes,
Professor Rusi Jaspal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange)
