Facebook groups guidelines for use

Facebook groups - guidelines for use

The university runs a number of closed Facebook groups where students can talk to students and get answers to questions from staff about their campus, school or course.

The content of these groups is moderated by fellow students, who also ensure that membership is limited to people who are part of the university community.

New members

If you're a member of one of these groups you should be aware of the following rules:

  • Please do not post adverts for commercial events. Be aware of anyone asking you to post advertising to the group on their behalf.
  • Please do not spam the group by posting something repeatedly or by posting irrelevant photos, videos or links.
  • Off-topic discussions are allowed provided they are related to the university in some way; this is at the discretion of the Admins.
  • Be aware of giving out too much personal information; we'd advise not sharing your private address or phone number even in a closed group.
  • Be polite; swearing and the use of explicit language is unnecessary and is likely to offend others.
  • Posts that advocate the use of alcohol, illegal drugs or smoking will be removed immediately.
  • If you are making posts using an alias we may request that you use your real name instead or leave the group depending on the nature of the posts.
  • If we think you are impersonating someone, or it may be inferred you are acting in an official capacity when in fact you are not authorised to do so you will be removed from the group.

Contacts and questions

If you are in distress contact Student Services who are able to provide personal assistance and are available during office hours on 01273 642895 or via email: studentservices@brighton.ac.uk

Instances of bullying or harassment should be reported to an Admin and will be dealt with in accordance with the university's disciplinary policy.

If you have any questions about these policies or any other queries about the use of these groups please contact webteam@brighton.ac.uk.
