Dr Obowoware Obi

Dr Obowoware Obi is a Senior Research Fellow and Technical Manager at the Vetronics Research Centre (VRC) within the University of Brighton. As a Technical Manager, Obowoware organises and coordinates VRC research projects so that project goals with respect to contractual requirements, are achieved on time and within budget.

In addition, he is currently the project leader of the VRC’s “Evolving Electronic Architectures and Networks” research project.

Obowoware Obi

My research interests

My research interest is in applications of distributed cryptography. Specifically, my interest lies in how distributed cryptography can facilitate the design/ development of secure systems. In addition, fundamental security enabling methodologies such as symmetric/ asymmetric cryptography, fully homomorphic encryption, digital signature algorithms, identity based schemes, secret sharing schemes, and secure multi-party computations are of interest to me.

Research activity

Current research projects:

  • Evolving Electronic Architectures and Networks – To enhance the survivability and dependability of Interoperable Open Architecture (IOA) for land vehicles.

Previous research projects:

  • Modular Safety Case Methodologies - Designed and developed new methodologies/techniques for re-certification of rapid-reconfigurable land platforms.
  • Vetronics Resilience - Designed and developed new concepts for land vehicle security strategies and technology insertion as a system of systems. This looks beyond the traditional fortress model of cyber-security.

Biography

I received a BSc (Hons.) in Mathematics from the University of Benin, Nigeria in 2000. An MSc in Multimedia Applications and Virtual Environment from the School of Cognitive and Computing Science (Cogs), at the University of Sussex in 2002.

I obtained a DPhil in Security and Communications Engineering from the Department of Engineering and Design, School of Science and Technology, University of Sussex in 2008. I joined the VRC as a Research Fellow in January 2008, researching on novel security concepts for land vehicles, which extends beyond the traditional fortress model. I left the VRC in 2010 and re-joined in 2012.

Prior to re-joining the VRC, I worked for FLEXTRADE UK Ltd, London. FLEXTRADE is a software development company specialising in broker-neutral algorithmic trading platforms and execution systems for equities, foreign exchange, and listed derivatives. My responsibilities included researching, developing and supporting applications in FLEXTRADE’s equity portfolio. Specifically, I was involved in building Pre-trade models for transaction cost analysis. This encompasses developing market impact and strategy risk models for FlexTQM and methods for minimising market impact and risk of underperforming benchmarks.
