Our degrees in law

Undergraduate degrees

Studying law at university will prepare you for a legal career as well as broader skills in analysis, logical reasoning and critical thinking - all of which are highly sought after in many careers.

Recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority as ‘Qualifying Law Degrees’ for 2021 entrants, all our law degrees also cover the foundations of legal knowledge required by the Bar Standards Board to satisfy the academic stage of training for barristers.

Our foundations of legal knowledge modules are also aligned with the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE), providing a solid base for you to prepare for SQE1 should you wish to qualify on the new solicitor’s route.

  • Law LLB(Hons)
  • Law with Criminology LLB(Hons)
  • Law with Business LLB(Hons)
  • Law with integrated foundation year LLB(Hons)

Postgraduate degrees

Designed for those working on the justice, social and consumer sectors, our postgraduate courses also support a career change to a solicitor or barrister.

Recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority as ‘Qualifying Law Degrees’ for 2021 entrants, our Law CPE and LLM Law Conversion courses also cover the foundations of legal knowledge required by the Bar Standards Board to satisfy the academic stage of training for barristers.

Our foundations of legal knowledge modules are also aligned with the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE), providing a solid base for you to prepare for SQE1 should you wish to qualify on the new solicitor’s route.

Our LLM Law Conversion and International Law and Social Justice LLM are also eligible for the Government's Postgraduate Loan Scheme.

PhD degrees

Research and knowledge exchange at the School of Business and Law are deeply rooted in the mission to promote responsible enterprise for a fairer society. We offer a wide variety of PhDs subjects at the School of Business and Law.

  • Business and Management PhDs (this includes law)
  • Tourism and hospitality PhD

We also have research centres and groups which focus on the School’s particular strength in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Justice as well as Tourism and Sustainability.

Solicitor apprenticeship

An alternative to the traditional route to qualify as a solicitor, this apprenticeship is an ideal opportunity if you're looking for an alternative to university or seeking a change in career. A solicitor apprenticeship will last from five to six years. However, any previous legal training you’ve done might reduce this time.

The advantage of studying law at Brighton is that they give you the option to not only combine it with business, but also to do a business placement. It enabled me to take a year out to focus and be in the workplace, meaning I came back to the final year feeling much more engaged with the topics.

What our graduates say

Jade-Chalker-testimonial-headshot

Jade Chalker, Law LLB(Hons) and International Law and Social Justice LLM

"I chose to study law as it helps you to think from a different perspective.

"At an undergraduate level, you’re learning the basics of law. These include the areas that everyone pursuing a law career needs to know. Studying at a master’s level is much more complex and specific. You'll be looking more in depth at an area of law and the jurisprudence behind it."

Jessica-akinboyewa-testimonial-headshot

Jessica Akinboyewa, Law with Business LLB(Hons)

"I want to become a barrister and this course has given me the awareness of what is required of me in the future, and to understand what area of law I want to practice.

My law tutors were extremely helpful and made me open to a lot of opportunities I wasn't aware of.

zoe-bowler-testimonial-headshot

Zoe Bowler, Law with Criminology LLB(Hons)

"At university I took the time to work ‘smart’ through my studies and used every opportunity to learn.

"Achieving a first in my degree showcased my true potential and I was given the opportunity to attend a vacation scheme with city law firm Charles Russell Speechlys. Through this I was offered a training contract.
