Academic skills

Develop your academic skills supported by a dedicated tutor. The Brighton Student Skills Hub (BSSH) has put together a team across all academic subjects to help work on your skills in workshops and small group seminars, or you can book some one-to-one time to go over a particular area.

We offer workshops and tutorials on:

  • Academic writing skills
  • Getting started
  • Reading strategies
  • Taking notes
  • Structuring your written work
  • Cohesion, coherence
  • Paragraphing
  • Incorporating sources
  • Academic style/register
  • Criticality
  • How to use tutor feedback

Other skills:

  • Exam strategies and revision (pending)
  • Preparing and giving presentations

This list is not extensive so please contact us if there is an element of your skills that you would like us to help you with.

Support for first year students

Foundation and level 4 (generally year 1) students are offered online, one-to-one tutorials with a tutor from BSSH to advise or help with your academic writing and speaking skills.

Sessions are held throughout the year – look for notifications in your inbox or contact skillshub@brighton.ac.uk.

Get in touch with your dedicated in-school BSSH tutor to discuss your academic support needs.

Your BSSH tutor contact information can be found through our Sharepoint page.
