Bursaries for nursing and allied health professions

NHS bursaries will no longer be available to students starting an undergraduate course in nursing, midwifery, podiatry or physiotherapy from September 2017 onwards. You will need to apply to Student Finance England for a loan to cover your tuition fees and living expenses.

Occupational therapy

If you started the Occupational Therapy BSc(Hons) degree in academic year 2017–18 you will be eligible to apply for an NHS bursary for living expenses. You will need to apply to Student Finance England for a tuition fee loan.

How to apply

Once you have accepted our offer, please visit the NHS website to create a Bursary Online Support System (BOSS) account and apply online.

Paramedic practice

If you have been offered a place on the Paramedic Practice BSc(Hons), your tuition fees will be paid by Health Education Kent, Surrey and Sussex (HEKSS), formerly the Strategic Health Authority. You will also be entitled to a living allowance offered by HEKSS.

How to apply

The university will send you an allowance application form in August or early September. You may also be entitled to apply for a reduced-rate maintenance loan from Student Finance England (residency rules apply).

What other help will you get?

If you are UK student and have an NHS-funded place on a course in nursing or an allied health profession, you may also be eligible to apply for a living cost grant and bursary to help with your living expenses. Students in certain circumstances may be eligible for additional allowances.

You may also be able to apply for a reduced rate maintenance loan via the government student finance package.
