  • Who we are

Welcome to the Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender

The University of Brighton's Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender (CTSG) brings together researchers from across the university who are working on themes related to sexuality, gender and social change with a core focus on producing research with community partners that impacts on policy and practice.

The research centre has longstanding strengths in interdisciplinary research relevant to LGBTQ Lives as well as sex, sexuality and health, digital sexualities, and emerging research around the theme of gender and citizen equality.

Many of our researchers have a shared commitment to feminist, queer theoretical approaches, using a variety of methodologies, and many have expertise in participatory, visual and creative methods.

The Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender promotes anti-racist and gender inclusive research practice across all disciplines.

Welcome to the Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender.

We are a leading research centre for ground-breaking interdisciplinary research on gender, sexuality and social change, providing a vibrant research environment and an intellectual home to internationally-recognised scholars who work in a wide range of fields intersecting with the study of genders, sexualities and social change across the arts and humanities, health and social sciences.

We have a very active PhD community of research students working in the area of sexuality, gender and social change from across the social sciences, health science, humanities, art and media.  We also host a postgraduate conference.

Our programme of activities includes international conferences, multi-disciplinary research seminars, methodology workshops, invited guest speakers, book launches and much more. The research centre works closely with a range of community partners and runs a yearly activist in residence programme.

We have a visiting researchers’ programme for international scholars and excellent international network of gender and sexuality experts associated with the Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender.
