Entry requirements

Details of the academic and English language requirements for your course are on our course finder. We help many students from Egypt to improve their qualifications to meet entry requirements.

Academic equivalencies

Undergraduate

We require students taking the Certificate of General Secondary Education to successfully complete an international foundation year or equivalent.

Postgraduate

We require applicants to hold either a bachelor’s or a master’s degree from the American University in Cairo or a public or private university. Bachelor’s degrees from ‘higher institutes’ are considered to be equivalent to foundation degree standard and, therefore, applicants with this qualification are not suitable for postgraduate study.

The bachelor’s degree is generally awarded after four years of study, though professional courses (eg architecture, dentistry, engineering, medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy) take five to six years to complete.

The same marking system is used for universities (at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels) and higher institutes, but varies according to the faculty. The American University in Cairo uses a grading scale ranging from 0-4.0, with 4 being the highest and 0 being the lowest.
