Entry requirements

Details of the academic and English language requirements for your course are on our course finder. We help many students from Sri Lanka to improve their qualifications to meet entry requirements.


Academic equivalencies

Undergraduate

We require three Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education (Advanced level) qualifications.

Students with relevant diplomas and HNDs may be considered for advanced entry on a case-by-case basis, subject to admissions assessment.

Postgraduate

We require a four-year honours, professional or special bachelor degree at Second Lower / GPA of 3.0.

English language requirements

We will not accept a Sri Lankan English language qualification as meeting our minimum English language proficiency requirements. Find out more about our English language requirements.

Degree preparation courses at the International College

If you complete your pathway course at the International College at the required level, you are guaranteed entry to a degree at the University of Brighton. Available degree subject areas include accounting and finance, art and design, business management, law with business, and many more.

Vice-Chancellor international scholarships

Our Vice-Chancellor international scholarships are automatically granted to eligible students from specific regions, including your country.

The Vice-Chancellor scholarship is awarded as a reduction on tuition fees of:

  • £2,500 at masters-level
  • £5,500 at bachelors-level (across a standard three-year course).

Settling in

We know it can be daunting to move country, so we will help you by:

Home from home

If you're looking for a little taste of home when you're in Brighton, you can check out Moonstone Sri Lankan restaurant in Hove. There are lots of other South Asian restaurants. You can use websites like Trip Advisor to filter your restaurant search by cuisine.

You can join one of the many student societies at our Brighton Students' Union. There are more than 100 societies – from faith-based groups to cultural societies, hobby-based groups and academic interests. If you can't find a society that suits your interests, you can even start your own! You can also make friends by joining a sports team or club, either to play for fun or take part in competitions against other universities.

Your employability

Whether you are studying a bachelors degree or adding to your existing qualifications with a masters-level course, it's important to think about how you will use your time at university to benefit your career after graduation.

All of our courses either offer the opportunity for a placement, or have work-related learning embedded, to help you apply your academic skills and knowledge in a professional environment. You'll also have access to our international student jobs portal, to help you find graduate work in the UK and abroad.

Our International Student Advice Service provides high-quality support and advice for students from outside the UK. The team can provide:

  • practical advice about living in the UK eg local shopping and transport, opening a UK bank account, accessing healthcare
  • information about social activities on and off campus
  • support for homesickness and culture shock
  • advice on financial hardship
  • support through times of crisis.
