Brighton art graduates grab the spotlight

A host of recent University of Brighton art graduates are gaining attention for their work on the UK and international stage.

11 November 2021

Nina Fisher – who graduated this year with Illustration BA (Hons) – has been chosen as a finalist at the Toronto Indie Filmmakers Festival, following her beguiling final year animation Mr Bird Watcher being awarded Best Animation at the Match Box Film Festival, and an Honourable Mention at the Roma Short Film Festival.

Fellow 2021 Illustration graduate Noah Kulman, meanwhile, has just won the Thames-Side Print Studio Prize at the Royal Society of Printmakers Original Exhibition at Bankside London.

Roderick Mills, Course Leader for Illustration, said: “So great to see the success of graduates Nina Fisher and Noah Kulman, after their endeavours amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, showing determination, resourcefulness and resilience in the making of their work. It's good to see individual visual voices finding currency in the professional world as they establish their illustration practice, across varying media - something our illustration course is well known for.”

An array of other graduates from the university's acclaimed arts degrees are also showing at the high profile Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, running 11-14 November at London's historic Royal Arsenal. With nearly 1,000 artworks, WCPF is the largest art fair of its kind solely dedicated to contemporary original print.

Nine Brighton alumni will be showcasing their work at the Woolwich Fair: Heike Roesel; Julie Clark; Fiona White; Jake Garfield; Lauren Collier; Daisy Jarrett; Liorah Tchiprout; Sherrie-Leigh Jones; and Emily Ketteringham.

There will be a School of Art and Media open day taking place online on Saturday 13 November from 11.30am. Details of what to expect and how to book are on our open days webpage.
