Giving Day 2022: Help to empower, support and inspire Brighton students

On 5-6 April 2022, the University of Brighton is holding its second annual Giving Day to raise money in support of our Student Potential Fund.

5 April 2022

The Student Potential Fund is our spark that ignites futures and empowers students to achieve their goals by funding four key areas: scholarships; wellbeing; student experience; and careers and entrepreneurship.

Whatever journey students are on, our community encourages them to stay curious and put what they learn into practice. Through this year’s Giving Day, we are asking our alumni, staff and friends to help us help students by donating to the Student Potential Fund.

During last year’s Giving Day, our community raised nearly £17,000 for the Student Potential Fund. This had a tremendous effect on the lives of so many students.

Over 36 hours, current students at the University of Brighton will share inspiring stories about the positive impact the Student Potential Fund has had on their personal and academic lives. They will share how scholarships and awards made possible by the fund have enabled them to embrace their own story of excellence at the university and beyond.

Jade Adebiyi, currently studying Biomedical Sciences Bsc(Hons), spoke about the impact of receiving a Black and Black Mixed Heritage Scholarship from the Student Potential Fund: “The funding provides so much support. It really helps me progress in all ways – mentally, emotionally, educationally. If you have someone saying, 'I'm rooting for you. I'm supporting you', it helps you reach your full potential.”

Professor Debra Humphris, Vice Chancellor of the University of Brighton said: “We know that it has been a challenging few years, and there is still much uncertainty in our world and lives. These challenges have a direct impact on our students too, which is why we’re asking you, our community, to support them. It’s essential for us to help enable the next generation to play a role in changing our world for the better.

“We’re asking you to empower students by providing more scholarships for our diverse and talented students. We’re asking you to support students by training them to be wellbeing champions. And we’re asking you to inspire students to make the most of their university experience, take up employability opportunities, and have the confidence to start their own businesses. Every donation makes a difference. Thank you.”

Through this year’s Giving Day, with your support, we want to ensure that the next generation of Brighton students have the best possible university experience that builds their confidence, resilience and skills to empower them to succeed and thrive.

Every penny raised makes it possible for students to seize opportunities that grow their knowledge, skills, ambitions and self-confidence in order to choose their future.

By donating to the Student Potential Fund, you’re allowing students to write their own story of excellence at the university and beyond. You’re igniting ambition, empowering individuality and changing lives.
