Swimming lessons

The University of Brighton provides swimming lessons from its Falmer based Brighton Sport and Health Complex. Our swim lessons follow the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme. Sign up will be termly with sessions costing just £12 per session. There will be sessions to cater for various stages of swimming development.

Our term time schedule is as below. Booking now open. Book now as places are limited. If you want a free trail to see what session is right for you or to simply give us a go then email us.

Children's swim lessons

Whether you're looking to build confidence in the water, improve your technique, or introduce your child to swimming for the first time, we have lessons tailored for all ages and abilities.

   Junior coaching – 10:30*
*Our junior coaching session is aimed at swimmers who have completed Swim England Learn to Swim Stages 1–7 and are ready to progress beyond the basics. These sessions focus on refining stroke technique across all four strokes, improving stamina, and introducing more advanced skills such as starts, turns, and race skills. Swimmers will build confidence, fitness, and efficiency in the water in a fun and supportive coaching environment, providing a clear pathway into club swimming or continued development.

Adult swim lessons

As well as children's lessons we also offer adult 30 minute lessons. You can book under different levels (see more detail about the levels).

Mondays:

  • Be Water Confident – 18:30
  • Be a Swimmer – 19:00
  • Be a Better Swimmer – 19:30

Summer Family Swims

Fun, family-friendly swim times.

Dates and times:

From 28th June 2026 - 28th August 2026: Sundays 1.15pm - 3.15pm

From 20th July 2026 - 28th August 2026: Monday to Friday 9.30am-11.30am

What's included:

  • Whole pool available for family use
  • All lanes removed
  • Pool depth 1.2m throughout
  • Free parking

Prices:

£6.50 adult + 1 child free

Additional children £3.50 each

Conditions:

  • Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult (16+) in the water at all times. 
  • Maximum ratio: 1 adult to 2 children under 8
  • Weak/ non-swimmers should use approved flotation aids

No booking required, just pay on the day.

How to book

If you have any issues with booking then feel free to call our reception 01273 643520 or email swimschool@brighton.ac.uk.

You will need to create an account in the name/ date of birth of your child, use the parents/ guardians contact details when setting up.

To do this click above on the Availability & Bookings button. When prompted to login; choose register. Use your preferred email address to do this. On the next screen choose 'Non Member Junior Swim School' under the membership options. Ensure the name and date of birth relates to the child undertaking lessons.

Once you have completed your registration then navigate to the Enroll on a Course page or use the link above and login using your newly created account.

Under filters choose:

  • Location: Sport Brighton​
  • Category: Junior Swim School​
  • Groups: Junior Swim School (weekly swim school) orIntensive Swimming Lessons (intensive lessons)​
  • Levels: (select the stage you require)

Go through the booking process to make your booking. On completion you will get an email with confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

  • Our pool is located at the University of Brighton Falmer Campus. This is conveniently located on the outskirts of Brighton with bus and train links from the city and surrounding area. We are located just off the A27 the same side as the football stadium. The pool is part of our Brighton Sport and Health Complex. This also has café social area and wider sports facilities such as multi-sport halls, gym, studio space, gymnastics area and outdoor facilities.

  • Free parking is available for Sport Brighton users for up to two hours. Please ensure you input your car details at reception to validate your parking at restricted times. Further location information can be found here.

  • £12.00 per lesson

  • It depends on the term; term dates can be found on the swim school notice board.

  • 5 weeks - £60.00
    6 weeks - £72.00
    7 weeks - £84.00
    8 weeks - £96.00
    9 weeks - £108.00

  • No, you will only pay for the remainder of lessons in the term.

  • If you need to change the day/time of your lesson, you will need to email the Swim School Coordinator to request this.

  • You do unfortunately miss that lesson without refund/credit unless due to medical reasons

  • If you child cannot attend lessons due to medical reasons, please provide a note from the doctor confirming this and we will either offer a refund or a credit for when they are able to return.

  • If we cancel your lesson due to staffing or issues with the pool, you will be credited for the lesson.

  • In the main cafe area away from fire exits and walkways

  • Yes, one parent/guardian is permitted on poolside per swimmer during lessons. Once your child is settled, we encourage you to take advantage of our café area. This not only gives you a comfortable place to relax but also helps your child grow in independence and confidence.

  • No, we have separate programmes for holidays.

  • To ensure your child is well-prepared for their swimming lesson, please pack the following items:

    • Swimmers: Appropriate swimwear is a must.
    • Swim Cap: This is mandatory for all swimmers.
    • Goggles: Optional but highly recommended.
    • Rash Vest: An optional extra layer for added comfort.
    • Swim Nappy: If your child is not yet toilet trained, they need to wear a swim nappy under their normal costume (double layer required).

    Please note that no food or drink is allowed in the changing room or poolside. However, we do recommend your child brings a sealed water bottle to stay hydrated during their lesson.

  • We are sorry to hear you wish to make a complaint. Please email the Swim School Coordinator.

  • When deciding which class is best suited for your child, we understand you may need some guidance. To make this process easier, we offer two options. First, after you register, you can book one of our assessment slots with a member of our teaching team. This will provide a personalized evaluation of your child’s skills and needs. Alternatively, you can use our stage entry guide to determine the most appropriate class level. Both methods are designed to ensure your child is placed in a class where they can thrive and progress confidently.
